DuoFlex Technology is applied throughout the design of our frames. Technology that stand out for its contemporary approach, keeping in mind optimal aerodynamics, based on the singular vision at Daigle Cycle. We use Toray carbon fiber with multi-layer bi-directional carbon mesh crossover, providing a smooth ride without losing performance. Varying the different wall thicknesses in key areas, Daigle Cycle frames optimize pressure zones and redistribute the energy return generated by them.
It does not matter, for the professional, the cyclist or the solitary, the vagaries of the road put pressure on the sensitive parts of a frame in different ways. Take a curve at 45 km/h, descend a pass at more than 75 km/h or simply negotiate many road obstacles, it requires in twisting or reflection unique responses. During the design study of our frames, we discovered that two distinct regions were subject to specific and complementary needs.
The front triangle including the steering column requires flexibility and refinement in terms of the choice of fibers selected. The flexibility/strength ratio is most important. A skilful blend of crossed multi-layers of rigid fibers and flexible fibers results in a necessary “flex” acting as a shock absorber to the smoothness of the ride, while keeping a pure and explosive response to the cockpit. The result is spectacular, a smooth, pressure-free ride that shows up on long rides. A balm for areas of the body such as the wrists, neck and lower back, which are too often used.
The rear triangle including the seat tube, bottom bracket, seat stays and chain stays, requires strength, power and stability. These are parts that are highly sought after by strong riders and climbers. Surrounded by an oversized sheath, the bottom bracket reduces oscillation, increasing power transfer. The integration of a quantity of flexible fibers in the seat stays and the chain stays generates an oscillatory “Wip” movement canceling the torsion imputed to the wheel. Inspired by the movement of a cheetah’s spine, this offset fully transmits every watt of power to the road. Resulting on a better acceleration, dynamic response and energy savings will be appreciated by the most demanding cyclists.
Aerodynamics, dear to us, is triggered when an object moves at more than 15 km/h. If you’re one of those who compiles your stats, the pro sprinting at 65 km/h or the amateur riding solo at an average of 26.75 km/h, know that aerodynamics plays a major role in your journeys.
Aerodynamic drag represents this vortex that you will have to fight during your outings, and unfortunately, this effect is exponential… The faster you go, the more it drags behind!
Our designers have analyzed several determining factors. The shape of the tubes and their rounding are part of the design of each of our frames. With nearly 2 million frames manufactured per year, the experience acquired by our manufacturer, followed by their advice, some computer simulations and our “brainstorming” sessions have guided us towards a design that takes care of this aspect invisible to the naked eye, but that you can feel after a few kilometres…
We have spent many years exploring multipleusage avenues for manufacturing our frames. Between self-sufficiency or affording the specialist, we did not hesitate too much… Our research stopped at 3 manufacturers. After some discussions, we opted for the Shenzhen manufacturer located some 35 kilometers from Hong Kong. Our carbon specialist manufactures just over 2 million carbon frames per year. He knows the recipe.
Each frame is handcrafted by a skilled team. With several hydraulic pressure simulators, each outgoing frame is tested to validate its structural capacities, lateral forces, overall usages and strong vibrations. The bare frames are then carefully examined before moving on to painting and finishing.
The finishing is done in a logical and natural sequence by quality craftsmen with nearly 20 years of experience. We regularly receive great comments on the exceptional quality of the finishing. In constant communication with the production team, we check each step and approve each one. Each frame is treated with the same attention to detail, which is what we take pride in.
With the many technical advances, this involves the regular production of new moulds. Working with a company of this size allows us to discuss things and see far ahead. If you can’t beat them, join them! That’s what we did!
Passionate about aerodynamics, Mathieu Daigle has spent a large part of his research on the outcome and understanding of this very real aspect of our cycling world. With the teaching of a family of enthusiasts, Mathieu quickly combined aerodynamics with the therapeutic benefits of cycling. His rich experience acquired on industrial design drafting tables, Mathieu challenges himself; designing a frame that brings together all his knowledge and knowhow to offer the ultimate bike. Several trips abroad have given him a solid base in manufacturing products, with prestigious producers who share his passion.
His constant search for integrated quality and performance found an answer, working tirelessly for creating the perfect compatibility between rider and bike, no matter their level of commitment.
